Why We Need to Attend a Local Church

There are three main reasons why I believe God has commanded us to attend a local church, which serves as our benefit. The three would be community, remembrance, and service, all working together for believers to come and glorify our living Savior.

Community

We, as sinners, are now welcomed into the Christian Church because of our faith in Jesus as our Christian faith. True Christians everywhere should be united in the Christian Church that provides a brotherhood and sisterhood. Coming together, we should know that we are one church family, regardless of race, age, or political stance. We all have the same Creator and sinful nature; therefore, I believe this is why it is good for us to communion with others, but it brings complexity. I believe God has called us to have fellowship with other believers and encourage each other in our walks with the Lord. We are to carry each other's burdens and stay accountable for each other. Sometimes in a church, this could be difficult if the church doesn't have the correct focus. The greatest enemies come from within, which can come from within the church. If God's Word is not at the center of the church and people are too focused on worldly issues, then I think that can pull away from the joy of God we are receiving. Through the church people, we come together humbly and worship our Father's name and give thanks for His free gift of eternal salvation to all those who believe.

Remembrance

Attending a local church weekly provides a time to remember Christianity in who God is and what He has done for His people. The church reminds Christians of the good news through a creed. Reciting a creed is making a declaration of faith that plainly spells out what you believe and unites you with the other church members. The creed is founded upon scripture which is organized for propagating the message of Jesus. Another way we as Christians can have remembrance of what Christ did for us at church is communion. Communion is eating the bread, which represents the body of Christ and drinking wine, which represents the blood of Christ. God has commanded Christians to eat and drink the body and blood of Christ, which is a physical remembrance of the crucifixion. Your church can provide these times to remember and meditate on the Gospel of Jesus; since we are sinners, we need remembrance. We need our hearts to be transformed from our worldly desires at least every week.

Service

A final reason why Christians need to attend a local church is to have an opportunity to serve and grow in the Christian faith. God has given each of us spiritual gifts which make us unique from others, and by attending a local church, we have an environment to serve other Christians. We can first learn how to serve and be served in a church and then go out into the world and do the same. We come together to be refreshed by the Word and fellowship with other believers in the church. Then, go out and proclaim God's Holy Name as Lord.
