The Bible Is More Than Just a Book

Why is the Bible important to Christianity?

The Holy Bible is the most crucial source of authority we as Christians have in knowing and understanding the teachings of Jesus Christ and our God. The Christian view of the Bible is that the Bible contains the revelation of God to man, which is only found in the Bible. The Bible is the very Word of God which is what humanity has to rely on giving life rather than depending upon the word of man, which is selfish and ultimately brings death. The Bible to Christianity is unique in the way that it stands firm as true because of the event of the death and resurrection of Christ. Without this event of the Gospel, we would be lost in the world, and all of humanity would still be under sin. But we truly have hope in the Bible, it being the true Word of God. John 3:16-17 says, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him". Based on this truth, we as Christians have to believe and have everlasting life.

The Story of Salvation in the Bible

The Bible is full of countless stories and teachings from the Lord, but the Bible also contains the new revelation, which is how we, as sinful people, could come into communion with our living God. This is the story of the Gospel and how we were given salvation to have eternal life. According to the Bible, salvation was not something Christians discovered years ago; it happened on a cross. Yes, our salvation from sin and death depends on Jesus' death, which happened long ago but has effects that continue until today. Christianity is founded on the Bible and gives us the knowledge to have a relationship with our Lord.

What does the Bible mean to me?

What the Bible specifically means to me is something so special. It is the one book I can never get enough of, whether reading it over and over or hearing it in my life. Knowing that in the Gospel, I can't do anything to "win" salvation; Jesus has already accomplished everything is so helpful to know. Jesus Christ had died for me on the cross and has completed His redeeming work by the resurrection. The Bible is also essential in my family's life as I grew up with my parents doing all they do based on the Bible. Knowing that the Bible is so important has led me to Lancaster Bible College, where Bible is its middle name. I have to train myself to be in God's word every day; otherwise, I will lose out on my relationship with the Lord. I have struggled with this habit my whole life but recently have been excited to be in God's Word in a different way. Understanding the Gospel and reminding myself of the truth is comforting and leaves me with hope.
